Penelope (Waiting for Odysseus)

Penelope (Waiting for Odysseus)

In Homer's Odyssey, Penelope has to wait 20 years for her husband Odysseus (Ulysses in Roman mythology), King of Ithaca, to finally return from the Trojan wars. During this time she devised various strategies in order to avoid having to marry any of her 108 suitors. Because of her determination to remain faithful to her husband, Penelope has become a symbol for marital fidelity.
